We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Teaching Fellow or Lecturer to join our expanding occupational therapy team within the College of Health and Society. We seek an enthusiastic, solution-focused and motivated Teaching Fellow or Lecturer with a breadth of Occupational Therapy experience. This position may be offered as either a Teaching Fellow or Lecturer depending on qualifications, experience, and career aspirations. You will be involved in the delivery of the Occupational Therapy Programmes (BSc and apprenticeship route), so this is an exciting opportunity to contribute to new programmes. The post holder will work collaboratively with our practice partners, support the Associate Professor in Occupational Therapy and have the opportunity to use your knowledge and experience to design, develop, innovate and deliver clinical and theoretical teaching that supports learning and student attainment. The role requires someone with up-to-date knowledge and understanding of contemporary occupational therapy practice, drive, commitment and a flair for sharing those attributes with our ambitious and highly capable students.

Job Purpose:   

  • Deliver a first-class student experience and undertake impactful research and knowledge exchange activities
  • Lead and undertake curriculum development, professional practice, placement-related activities and development, enterprise activity, research and other forms of scholarly activity, contributing to the wider work of the programme/department/college or wider University

  • To design and deliver high quality, innovative and challenging learning experiences, using current theory and practice together in lively debate.

The purpose of the role is to support teaching and learning through the delivery of modules in conjunction with the course leader.  To include tutorial class teaching, personal tutorial support, provision of feedback to the students, coursework assessment and examination marking and supporting with placement-related activities and development.

The role will focus on teaching and learning delivery activities within different academic delivery models with a provision of weekly office hours and may include different business locations.

More generally the role will be required to:

  • Teach and support students by adopting a learner-centred approach and being committed to contributing towards delivery of a first-class student experience

  • Act as a main point of contact for tutorial class teaching for one or more courses
  • In conjunction with the course leader, design and prepare teaching material within the overall module/course framework.  This will involve planning the delivery of teaching, generating material for the tutorials and liaising with the team to share best practise and ensure consistency.  To include planning and delivering the curriculum using appropriate media
  • With support, undertake associated activities with the courses taught including, personal tutoring, recruitment, assessment, review and evaluation
    • Prepare standard material and questions for discussion about the tutorial topic.  Where required develop these to assist students who had found the lecture challenging
    • Marking of assignments, essays and exams and provide detailed feedback to ensure the student clearly understand what is required of them
    • To provide effective feedback, support and guidance to students, which promotes improvement of performance
    • To monitor student progress, achievement and where required, develop and implement interventions.
