The Student Engagement and Retention Lead sits within the Learning Enhancement and Academic Practice (LEAP) directorate. The post holder leads data-driven activities to develop and ensure the delivery of effective and timely interventions for all students at risk of non-continuation. The primary focus is to identify students ‘at risk ‘and for developing personalised plans to support them to progress with their studies.
In this role you will lead a small team who will signpost and support learners. You will provide a business partner service to the Academic Schools and other professional services The post holder will also contribute to a review of relevant policies and contribute to the development of a new personal tutoring system.

Main Duties & Responsibilities of the role:
- Accountable for identifying students ‘at risk ‘and for developing personalised plans to support them to progress with their studies.
- Use learner analytics and other data to identify students at risk and lead your team to implement strategies to support to them in their studies.
- Provide day-to-day management and leadership of a small team of case workers.
- To produce routine and annual reports on the activities undertaken by the team including setting and monitoring achievement of goals for inclusion in university strategy and action plans.
- Support the University in shaping its priorities and KPIs related to student retention and engagement. Help to shape university initiatives and student facing services to meet the need of all students.
- Influencing and working in partnership with colleagues in the academic Schools, central Directorates, and other key stakeholders. Working closely with each of the University’s Schools, Directorates and Student Union, ensure that personal tutors are supported and effective in enhancing student engagement and retention.
- Work in partnership with Strategic Development and Planning to oversee the annual student retention data collection, analysis and dissemination and use to inform student engagement and retention team action plans.
- Develop insights into and a practical understanding of the factors which can create obstacles to learning and successful experience of encouraging participatory activity by students to impact on retention and engagement.
- Through the work of the engagement and retention team, initiate key strategic projects to enhance the student experience across the university.
- Advise and report to the Director of Learning Enhancement and Academic Practice (LEAP) and/or Head of Pedagogy and Practice concerning the successful implementation of the engagement and retention strategies, and the monitoring of key performance indicators.
- In addition to the above areas of responsibility, the post holder may be required to undertake any other reasonable duties relating to the broad scope of the position.
