The Peer Support Co-ordinator will play a key role in supporting the University’s ambitious targets relating to student retention ensuring students are supported to complete their studies. The Peer Support Co-ordinator will provide quality training, support and development of Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) and mentoring programmes across Buckinghamshire New University. This will include supporting the Student Engagement and Retention Lead across departments where peer support schemes are in place, as well as developing and introducing schemes in departments where schemes are not yet in place. The Peer Support Co-ordinator will be responsible for recruiting, training and supporting student volunteers. The post holder will be expected to ensure the success of the schemes across the university working in partnership with academic departments.

Main Duties & Responsibilities of the role:

  • Work in partnership with staff from various departments in the University to establish and coordinate the Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) and mentoring.
  • To develop, deliver and to organise the recruitment and training process of the Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) and mentoring.
  • Develop an awareness of peer support in areas where schemes don’t currently exist with the aim of establishing new cross-university schemes at BNU campuses.
  • Work closely with academic personal tutors in the Schools and collaborate with the Student Union to ensure a seamless and coordinated integration of support for students.
  • Maintain appropriate records of actions and interventions to support timely and accurate reporting of the student engagement and retention team’s performance against key performance indicators.
  • Contribute to monitoring and evaluation of the work of the Student Engagement and Retention team.
  • Provide ongoing support, guidance and recognition for all Peer Support volunteers.
  • Provide advice and support to peer mentors and PAL Leaders on effectively engaging students with schemes
  • Comply with relevant legislative and other requirements (e.g., the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR; Health and Safety; UKVI; and Equality and Diversity) in all working practices
  • Such other duties temporarily or on a continuing basis, as may reasonably be required.
  • ‘Atypical’ employee line management responsibilities including recruitment and selection, performance management, professional development, motivation, health & safety and wellbeing.
