We are seeking to employ an innovative and inspiring Singing & Voice Lecturer with higher education experience and extensive knowledge of musical theatre to deliver voice and singing modules for our BA (Hons) Musical Theatre programme. Key responsibilities include teaching vocal anatomy, ensemble singing, and applied singing & voice modules, while also acting as Musical Director for in-house and external performances, including full-scale productions.

 

You will be responsible for designing and implementing a diverse and inclusive approach to teaching and learning, contributing to course design and delivery while fostering flexibility, confidence, knowledge, and skill development in students. You will also serve as a pastoral tutor and supervise Level 6 dissertations, supporting students' academic and personal growth. Experience in Estill Voice Training, Vocal Balance, or Fitzmaurice Voicework is desirable, along with proficiency in piano/keyboard skills.

Job Purpose:   

  • Deliver high-quality voice and singing teaching, alongside musical direction for both in-house and external performances, ensuring alignment with the university's standards and the BA (Hons) Musical Theatre programme.
  • Provide an inclusive and engaging learning environment that supports diverse student needs, fostering academic growth and artistic development.

 

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

Research and Knowledge Exchange:

  • Conduct research and scholarly activity, clearly plan to generate income and align own research with teaching and learning
  • Engage with relevant business and professional networks to promote teaching and learning and research in a professional context
  • Contribute to knowledge through refereed conference outputs and peer-reviewed (non-conference) outputs
  • Embed research within teaching and curriculum and contribute to research impact 
  • Contribute to the leadership of an inclusive and interdisciplinary research culture
  • Undertake research with external partners, communities, professional bodies and/or employers.
  • Contribute to the REF and KEF and to internal and external research and enterprise strategies

 

Learning, Teaching & Scholarship:

  • Undertake research-informed teaching in the subject discipline managing all aspects of curriculum delivery and quality
  • Deliver educational knowledge and practice through generation of peer-reviewed pedagogical outputs.
  • Act as Musical Director for in house and external performances, including full-scale productions, providing direction and vocal support, while ensuring the integration of voice work into production projects.
  • Contribute to the leadership of an inclusive teaching and learning culture and ensuring delivery of excellent student experience and outcomes.
  • Contribute to research informed innovative pedagogy, curriculum and programme design and planning including digital technology to enhance learning
  • Deliver successful and impactful tutoring and pastoral support to students including the support of placements and internships
  • Engage with professional bodies, employers, and other organisations to stay informed on industry standards and best practices, enhancing both professional practice and student outcomes.
  • Provide effective feedback, support, and guidance to students, which promotes improvement of performance.
