We are seeking an enthusiastic Associate Lecturer to support teaching across our undergraduate, postgraduate, and apprenticeship programmes in Engineering and the Built Environment. The role will involve delivering high-quality teaching in general engineering, as well as specialist areas within mechanical, civil, and electrical & electronic engineering.

 

The successful candidate will adopt a learner-centred approach, ensuring an engaging and supportive environment that enhances the student experience. As a team player, they will contribute to the wider work of the School, collaborating with colleagues to develop and deliver innovative teaching and learning strategies.

Job Title:  Associate Lecturer in Engineering

 

School/Directorate:  School of Engineering and the Built Environment

 

 

Location:  High Wycombe, with occasional teaching at Uxbridge and Aylesbury as required

 

Hours:  Part time – as per schedule

Responsible to:   Head of School of Engineering and the Built Environment

 

Job Purpose:   

  • The role will support teaching in our UG, PG and Apprenticeship programmes in engineering and built environment.
  • Teaching will be focused on general engineering and also in specific areas within mechanical, civil and electrical & electronic engineering.
  • Teach and support students by adopting a learner-centred approach and being committed to contributing towards delivery of a first-class student experience
  • Be a team-player and contribute to the wider work of the School
  • Practice an inclusive approach and support building an inclusive university community where people can be themselves.

 

Main Duties & Responsibilities of the role:

  • With support, design and deliver high quality, innovative and challenging learning experiences, using current theory and practice together in lively debate.
  • With support, undertake associated activities in connection with the courses taught including, personal tutoring, recruitment, assessment, review and evaluation.
  • Contribute to the student experience – demonstrating an awareness of the need for ‘customer focus’ in respect of resolving issues.
  • Conduct research and scholarly activity of relevance to the lecturing role and / or professional practice and aligns own research with teaching and learning.
  • Engage with business and professional networks to promote teaching and learning and research in a professional context.
  • Contribute to open days, school, college and partnership links and the promotional work of the department.
  • Support students in supervising placements, learning in practice, internships and work-related activities.
  • Deliver pastoral care and project supervision of students.
  • With support, plan and deliver the curriculum using appropriate media, including the use of IT.
  • Provide effective feedback, support and guidance to students, which promotes improvement of performance.
  • Engage in professional development activities (e.g. CPD, attendance at conferences) relating to teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Maintain and foster the high reputation of the University in practice partner settings.
  • Comply with relevant legislative and other requirements (e.g., the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR; Health and Safety; UKVI; and Equality and Diversity) in all working practices
  • Such other duties temporarily or on a continuing basis, as may reasonably be required.
